Definition of artistic practice? I have worked professionally as a puppeteer since 2007 – both on TV and in theater. I've been working with the puppet theater company Teater Refleksion since the beginning and as a puppeteer ind their shows we have toured in Australia, Japan, Taiwan and most countries in Europe. I also run my own theater company Teater Håndholdt and work as a puppet consultant/teacher. I'm a storyteller and puppeteer in hospitals and I often hold puppetworkshops for kids and families.
Title of the investigation at the residency Bircas Bombaderbiller og andre kryb
Description of investigations and findings

My desire was to open up the world of performing arts to my family and share my passion for theater with objects. In addition, I wished to explore and collaborate with them on an equal level – to learn from the children and have time and space to create based on the children’s initiative and ideas.
My children wanted to base our work around the rare beetle “bombaderbillen”- fascinated by the fact that it bombards its enimies with a sky of boiling hot liquid coming out of its butt. In the residency we went on an expedition to find the beetle- instead we ended up on a beach – finding fossils of insects living millions of years ago. During the week we documented our finds of dead insects and objects and inspired by the color festivals in India we made our own color powder. My daughter made a choreography and on the last day we dressed up as our version of the beetle and danced the “Bombaderbille-dans” and threw bombards of colored powder at each other in the battle of the beetles.

What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? Puppetry should not only entertain, but also surprise, inspire and create illusions. I am interested in wordless puppetry, where the puppets tell the story with their movements and actions. I am fascinated by the meditative nature of leading a puppet and the therapeutic outcome of working with puppets.
What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? How can a creative proces be initiated by a family that are used to be together in a whole different way? How can working with performing arts bring us closer together as a family? How can I bring my family further into my practice in the future?
Transformative, creative moments at the residency On the first day we explored the area around Birca. We had a magical, silent walk into the forest. The light was going through the trees in a very special way, the air was moist and a litlle foggy. The walk was almost sacred - leaving us with lots of finds of objects and ideas. It was like the nature made a performance for us!
