| Definition of artistic practice? | I am a performing artist with a visual education background and I work as atelierista in art education projects with children and teenagers. |
| Title of the investigation at the residency | Co-creation - The Sea Hotel |
| Description of investigations and findings | During the residence my work was influenced firstly by the inputs brought from each component of the co-creation group, represented by reports and stories about their own island landscape and culture , especially regarding sea and rock topics. As a theatre and dance perfomer I was interested in how translate some of this shared materials into movement and into the space, for example focusing on natural phenomena as migrations of marine species through the oceans streams ; so translate both the physical movements of waves and fishes or plants – from the human point of view – and the sensations that we as humans can feel thinking or watching these phenomena. The idea behind this experimentation was to re-connect people with the inner part of the sea, commonly not known by us and so ignored. So in general my work in the studio sessions and improvisation was centered on contact with natural elements. |
| What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? | The co-creation context was really motivating and challenging, so it has been a stimulus to investigate questions and ideas to “put on the table” at the service of a collective idea. The group was composed by such different artistic profiles so this has been a deep motivation and a reason to take risks and inspirations, to seek my own artistic vision but in a listening frame, to enlarge my perspective thanks to the others work. |
| What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? | My intention was to investigate the sea as an element that at the same time divide and connect, and develop my research within this frame of constant movement – material and symbolic - that characterizes island's life I am enriched with more ecological-oriented issues focused on seas wealth conditions in the contemporay world and on the reciproque influences between differents seas, how this does influence our human daily life and how could have a more active behaviour towards this. |
| Transformative, creative moments at the residency | I made an improvisation with Emma, in which we evocated the birds' singing, as we were interacting with them, while setting up a performative path to guide the audience. This was related to the walk we had in a Svartingedal, where the silence of the forest was filled by birds. I was very enriched, inspired and I felt the meaning to be in a co-creation project in the sharing workshops that each one of us was invited to do and offer to the others, as a sharing of own personal way of working. |
