Definition of artistic practice? We work with documentary practices, conducting interviews with key figures, researchers, and members of the public, especially young people. We are also deeply interested in the practice of sustained and in-depth conversation with one another. Through our work, we seek answers to international and geopolitical questions, while grounding them in personal experience. To create emotional depth, we draw on our own feelings, childhood memories, and poetic leaps of imagination.
Title of the investigation at the residency Østersøen Mit Øje
Description of investigations and findings

We arrived with a clearly defined theme: the militarisation of the Baltic Sea region, and, in particular, how this development is perceived by people living on the islands of the Baltic. Having both time and space at our disposal allowed us to sharpen our artistic practice and clarify the purpose of our project. Conversations with fellow residents at BIRCA also provided valuable opportunities for reflection. We explored a conversational method based on working in pairs. One person writes while the other is free to follow associations, intuitions, and spontaneous thoughts. Our interest lies in imagining future scenarios and accessing a more contemplative and meditative state than the conventional analytical and rational mode of thinking. We came to understand that making sense of current events requires us to confront our own fears and to develop new forms of perception and expression.

What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? We are curious about practices of imagining the future. We investigated our own imaginations, both in writing and meditations - with or without closed eyes. Staying with the trouble and work of imagining, rather than rushing on to the next future scenario - as opposed to the virulent proliferation of more or less alarmist futures in contemporary media. Can the work of imagining be a form of resistance? We also did this work collectively with groups.
What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? As this is a sound-based project, we were also deeply engaged with the recording and creation of sound. We recorded conversations, of course, but also waves, ambient sounds, and other sonic elements specific to Bornholm as an island surrounded by the sea. We further investigated the act of producing sounds ourselves, attempting to recreate the sounds of contemporary warfare: What does a drone sound like? What do bombs sound like?
Transformative, creative moments at the residency We also engaged physically with the theme of violence. Through embodied exercises and exploration, we sought to understand what this fundamental, yet often fictionalised, concept actually means, both to us and to those who attended our sharing and presentation. We both had a transformative moment of remembering early childhood memories with violence and non-violence.
