| Definition of artistic practice? | I work with performing arts, dance, circus, movement, site-specific improvisation, film and photography combined with environmentalism and activism. I dance and jump in the vertical dance harness, on the ground and on the wire, climb trees and poles, travel slowly and be excited and enthusiastic for zillion things, like movement, nature and collaboration. For me empathy, care and communication is at the core of being and I hope to work with and to inspire people, to bring us together and make a change towards a regenerative and just future. I wish to give voice to nature and for those who have lost theirs. I work with societal burning issues, and still try to have joy and humor in my work as well. |
| Title of the investigation at the residency | KOTI / Taking a stand for the Baltic Sea |
| Description of investigations and findings | Site-specific work in nature around BIRCA investigating the theme of home with movement and photography. Melting into the landscape/becoming landscape, trying to find my place in the whole. Theme of time; human rhythm – nature rhythm. Photo exhibition with the photos. Brought the movement in a studio, combined harness dance to video projections filmed from the surroundings of BIRCA. Started Taking a stand for the Baltic Sea project that became an online platform petition & campaign with photos. |
| What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? | To develop the theme of one person demonstration and activism combined in performing arts. I started to combine the vertical dance performance to this theme and it premieres at the Baltic Sea day -24. |
| What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? | -How can we take care of the Baltic Sea and raise awareness in order to make a change into a regenerative and just future? -How to combine vertical dance with video projections? -What is home for us? |
| Transformative, creative moments at the residency | I collaborated with Sanna Hirvonen combining tree climbing into her poems and got re-inspired about whales by Siri Bengtén's work with them. I was reading a book about whales and the memory of the sea during the residency (Meren muisti by Petra Rautiainen) which talked a lot about the underwater noise pollution that disturbs and becomes even lethal for the whales. With Siri’s tree meditation my spirit animal whale came back to me and I decided to combine the whale soundscape into my performance. |
