| Definition of artistic practice? | Scenography, film, drawings, narratives |
| Title of the investigation at the residency | On Islands |
| Description of investigations and findings | I worked on a series of drawings, photographs and videos. Besides, I was keeping a diary and also some fictional narratives around my observation. Combined with theoretical material on ecology, politics, and human-nature relationship. The most important aspects were the sealine and the views of the island, wild in Saaremaa and, in contrast, civilized in Bornholm. The experience of being close to nature, a dedicated observer, made me think on the idea of nature as something hidden and secret. The veil of Isis, the classic metaphoric image representing the inaccessibility of nature’s secrets, served me as a motif for a narration of a sci-fi genre. In the series about Saaremaa, the “action” take place in a world after a natural and political catastrophe, where a team of scientists try to “reconstruct” images of the landscape that are getting “swallowed” by strange holes. The holes are a metaphor of the human veiling and denial of nature. |
| What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? | Landscape. Sci-Fiction. Ecology. Island geography as a defined limit. Politics and ecofeminism. The exchange with the residents. French literature ;) My intention is continue that series in different islands with different scenarios and formats. Also including more fictional elements, quite discreet in the first episodes, such as interprets. |
| What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? | I came with the idea of developing a video essay, which I did, but I also went with a more precise idea about a particular type of narrative. |
| Transformative, creative moments at the residency | I can’t recognize a precise idea or when did it happen. I was just developing the work in process, and I think this idea of building a fiction came “naturally”. |
