| Definition of artistic practice? | I make art with more-than-human selves and atmospheric phenomena through dance, movement, somatics and sound art. I am co-creating hydrofeminist choreographies (performances, concerts, workshops, walks etc.) in relation to various bodies of water using my own human body of water as a vessel of multispecies encounters and deep listening. I have vast experience in working collaboratively with the land(scape) and its inhabitants. I situate my work within queer ecology and environmental somatics. |
| Title of the investigation at the residency | -- |
| Description of investigations and findings | I was walking outdoors and from time to time cocooning myself in a studio – dancing, singing, creating rituals, writing and drawing. I spent some time on the seashore, observing seaweed, discovering and learning from the water-land in-betweenness through touch, sight and smell. I allowed myself to not want anything, not to produce, not to try hard to create, invent, experience something. In times of overproduction and self-exploitation, this required a certain determination and focus from me. My teachers and companions on this path of letting go were laughter, play, solitary walks, birdsongs, shared dances, the moon and the sea – its strength and vastness. |
| What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? | I value and co-create environments of a mindful and caring intertwining of art, research, bodies of water, plants and people. I am interested in how being sensible to relations with plants, land, soil and atmospheric phenomena enable a fuller embodied understanding of our responsibilities for environmental matters and our common future(s). Being present and entangled in/with a place is the starting point of how I engage in any creative process. |
| What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? | I research the ways for reconnection with the natural world through intimacy and interdependence. On Bornholm, I have explored healing practices, contemplation (silence & stillness) and embodied knowledge(s) situated in a landscape of the Island. I engaged with non-human others in various ways, interacting with their agencies, local environments and communities. How do we listen, rest and be-with more-than-human companions and ancestors? |
| Transformative, creative moments at the residency | I left the trail, following animal tracks. I sat on a rock overlooking the sea. It was a warm, fragrant day. I dozed off for a while, listening to the water. |
