| Definition of artistic practice? | I am a theatre maker, actor, playwright, stage director, singer-songwriter, and healer from Martinique. My creations on stage, outside, in classrooms, are all infused with the intention to heal and to bring healing to the audience. Coming from a heavy colonial past, and from the traumatizing slavery horror my Ancestors had to face, I want to bring awareness on any source of trauma and encourage a healing process within beings, humans, flora, fauna, visible and invisible. |
| Title of the investigation at the residency | A wake for water to awaken again |
| Description of investigations and findings | I let Bornholm guide me regarding my investigations. All I knew was I wanted to explore with the element of Water. I started by asking Susanne about the state of the water, and she shared that it was quite polluted. I read articles online to understand where this pollution came from. I realized that humans’ activities – farming industry, boats’ traffic, Chemical Warfare Agents – are literally killing the sea. This pollution is causing a blue-green algae proliferation, which, when they die and fall at the bottom of the sea, use the dissolved oxygen present. To sum it up, the Baltic Sea is slowly asphyxiating. This “eutrophication” doesn’t allow any fish or life forms in this water. What are called “dead zones” are covering a larger area each year. I collected a sample of this dying water hoping to bring some healing to it. I also collected samples of fresh water from highly energetic spots on the island to help with the healing process.

| What are you most curious about or invested in in your own practice? | I am most invested in bringing awareness on sensitive issues, ancestral, colonial, patriarchal, environmental, and strive to elevate consciousness about our humanity and responsibility towards life, our own, the planet's. I want to impulse healing, change and action to repair the damage that has been done to us and the Earth over time. |
| What questions did you bring to investigate and what questions are you leaving with? | I came with a curiousity about Water on and around the island. I leaving wondering if the ritual I have performed will ignite in people the will to make a difference, as they can, to help reverse the dying process of the Baltic Sea. |
| Transformative, creative moments at the residency | They were so many. My favorite ones were: - visiting the Crystal Lake. I knew this water was magical and had in it healing powers I could use during my process. - meditating and singing to that Crystal lake water every morning and night to infuse it with even more love. - walking with Amano in Bastemose, finding an amazing peaceful clearing where, suddenly, a white deer rushed through, followed by four other fellows. It was unbelievably beautiful. I was in awe and so grateful. |
