There are two big rehearsal studios the sizes of 160 and 130 sq meters each. The main building is 200 sq m big and contains 3 different rooms for rent. Further, we have a beautiful 130 sq m atelier apartment with a first floor dormitory/studio in the stable building. We host residencies for up to 6 individuael artists at the same time, also two different performing art groups can work and stay at BIRCA simultaneously.
The farmhouse buildings are situated in the middle of 3,31 hectares of land, beautiful fields with a small stretch of forest nearby. So there is plenty of space to think and unfold your artistic ideas at BIRCA.

Community
When you stay at BIRCA, you are part of the community of artists and residents who are present at the same time. This means that you cook and eat together, participate in shopping, cleaning and other practical chores. And then there is ample opportunity to participate in discussions and activities across, in short, get to know new people and become part of international networks. Read more about the practical stuff here.
By embracing BIRCA’s natural surroundings, we want to create a vision for an ecological future that allows for connectedness, generosity and sharing. As part of the research, we also work with the understanding of gender as something that can be non-binary and non-conforming and as such we welcome queer artists. We also welcome BIPOC artists and we welcome parents that take kids and caretakers along on the residency.
BIRCA works by the principe of Radical Openness, which we invite everyone who visits to work with. We define this by four parts – transparency, sharing, co-creation, giving space for Empowerment. We aim at securing a supporting enviroment for everyone that visits BIRCA. If you at any point feel harrased or insecure please let director Susanne Danig know and we will take action. If you need to talk about actions on the part of the leadership you are welcome to in confidence to contact board member Lars Rømer on lars@sansaga.dk.
